Shooting this film was one of the toughest yet most rewarding experiences I’ve had. Directing is already a challenge, but doing it while producing at the same time made it even harder. The biggest struggle was translating my vision from script to screen, especially in an outdoor setting where we had little control over the environment. I spent days working closely with my DP, figuring out how to frame each shot, finding angles that worked in tight spaces, and making sure we didn’t disrupt the sellers in the market. With limited equipment, smooth camera movement was tricky, and lighting was another battle.

What made the process even more special was the kindness of the Vietnamese uncles and aunties at our locations. They welcomed us into their shops, let us rest, told their customers about our film, and even asked to see the final result. Their warmth and support reminded me why I love filmmaking—it’s not just about the final product, but the people and stories along the way.

None of this would have been possible without my incredible team and friends who stood by me. Everyone gave their all, working through the chaos, problem-solving on the spot, and making sure we stayed on track. Without them, this film wouldn’t have been completed on time. It’s not perfect, but it’s real, and that means everything to me.
I submitted this project for the ASUS ProArtist Award, hoping it finds its place among other passionate works. No matter the result, this journey has been unforgettable, and I’m grateful for every moment.
